Fuel Storage Tank Considerations

‌Fuel storage tanks should pay attention to the following points during use:

‌Tank installation‌: Tank installation should comply with relevant national regulations and choose a suitable location. The bottom of the tank should be flat and solid, and there should be no flammable materials around it. The safe distance from the fire source, traffic roads, buildings, equipment, etc. should meet national standards. During installation, attention should be paid to the layout of the drainage system to ensure that it will not affect the safety of the surrounding environment. The tank should be reliably grounded to ensure the conductivity between the tank and the earth.

‌Operation specification‌: The tank should be cleaned and inspected in accordance with regulations before use to ensure that no foreign matter remains and effectively eliminate potential safety hazards in the tank. A liquid level control instrument should be installed in the tank to ensure that the diesel level is within a safe range. The tank should be inspected and maintained regularly, and damaged coatings should be cleaned, leaks repaired, and pipeline accessories maintained in a timely manner to ensure that the basic safety capacity of the tank is not reduced.

‌Anti-static measures‌: The oil tank itself is a place where static electricity is easily accumulated, and anti-static measures must be taken. In the process of transporting diesel, operations such as reducing oil transportation friction and mechanical collisions should be reduced to reduce the possibility of static electricity accumulation. Static grounding equipment should be installed on the storage tank to ensure that the tank body is well grounded with the roof, pipeline and other systems to eliminate possible static electricity.

Fire safety: For storage tanks storing flammable gases and flammable liquids, fire-fighting equipment should be equipped. Smoking, open flame lighting, heating, and bringing ignition sources into the tank area are strictly prohibited. For storage tanks storing flammable, explosive, toxic, corrosive and other media, the relevant regulations on the management of hazardous materials should be strictly implemented.

Waste disposal: When the storage tank can no longer be used, it needs to be disposed of. Before disposal, the empty tank should be properly checked and the diesel and waste materials in the tank should be emptied. The waste process should be in accordance with relevant national or industry regulations and authorized environmental protection units to ensure environmental safety.

Anti-corrosion measures: The anti-corrosion measures for the inner and outer walls of the storage tank should be determined according to the stored medium and soil. The steel oil storage tank body should be equipped with lightning protection and anti-static grounding devices, and its grounding resistance should not be greater than 10Ω. The grounding point should be set at least once every 30 meters along the bottom of the tank, and a single tank should not be grounded at less than two points.

Fire and explosion prevention: Fire dikes should be set up in the tank area as required and kept intact. The area should be kept clean and tidy, with no hay, oil stains, or flammable materials in the fire dikes. There should be no oil stains or water accumulation on the top of the oil tank. Fire and explosion prevention and low-multiple air foam fire extinguishing systems in the tank area should be set up as required.
